BYD Atto 3 Warranty: What's Covered in the UK and Australia

A new Atto 3 comes with BYD's 6-year vehicle warranty and 8-year battery and drive-unit warranty in both the UK and Australia, with the battery guaranteed to keep at least 70% state of health. Because the Atto 3 has been on sale since 2022, it is also the BYD most often bought used — so the date the warranty started matters as much as the terms.

Early Australian Atto 3s have more cover than sellers think

When BYD simplified its Australian warranty in April 2025, it backdated the new terms to every car delivered since the Atto 3 launch in August 2022. A 2022 Atto 3 therefore keeps bumper-to-bumper cover until 2028 and battery cover until 2030 (or the distance limit). Some private sellers still quote the older, shorter component terms — check the start date with a BYD dealer using the VIN.

Battery sizes and what the warranty means for each

The original Atto 3 used 49.92 kWh and 60.48 kWh Blade (LFP) packs. The 2026 Atto 3 Evo uses 60.48 kWh in the front-wheel-drive Dynamic and 74.88 kWh in the rear-wheel-drive Premium in Australia. Every version gets the same 8-year battery warranty, so the battery size changes the range — not the cover. A VIN decode confirms which pack a used car has.

Atto 3 recalls to check

In Australia, 703 early (2022) Atto 3s were recalled to modify the rear-centre child-restraint anchorage and the front passenger airbag switch. In September 2024 BYD also recalled 96,714 Yuan Plus and Dolphin cars built between November 2022 and December 2023 in China for a steering-controller fault; Australian cars were not affected, but a privately imported Chinese-market Yuan Plus could be. Recall work is free whether or not the car is still under warranty.

Build date vs model year in Australia

In 2026 BYD Australia admitted that about 1,200 Atto 3, Sealion 8 and Shark 6 vehicles built in 2025 had been sold as 2026 builds, and offered owners A$3,500 compensation, a refund or a replacement. The warranty runs from delivery either way, but the build date affects resale value — check the compliance plate and decode the VIN before you pay.

What can void Atto 3 warranty cover

Missed or undocumented servicing, non-approved modifications, non-genuine parts or fluids, accident and flood damage, and ignoring dashboard warnings. In Australia you no longer have to service at a BYD dealer, but the car must be serviced on schedule (EVs roughly every 12 months or 20,000 km — check the handbook) and you need the invoices.

FAQ

How long is the BYD Atto 3 warranty?

6 years on the car and 8 years on the battery and drive unit. In the UK the limits are 93,750 miles for the car and 155,000 miles (250,000 km) for the battery; in Australia 150,000 km and 160,000 km.

Is a 2022 Atto 3 still under warranty in Australia?

Usually yes. BYD backdated its current terms to cars delivered since August 2022, so a 2022 Atto 3 keeps vehicle cover to 2028 and battery cover to 2030, subject to the distance limits and servicing.

Does the Atto 3 warranty transfer to a new owner?

Yes. The remaining cover stays with the car and is counted from its first delivery date.

Is a grey-import Yuan Plus covered by BYD's warranty?

Usually not by the local distributor. The Yuan Plus is the Chinese-market Atto 3; check the VIN with a local BYD dealer before buying one.
