BYD Seal Warranty: Seal, Seal 6 DM-i and Seal U Explained

Three different BYDs carry the Seal name: the electric Seal saloon, the Seal 6 DM-i plug-in hybrid (saloon and Touring estate) and the Seal U DM-i SUV. All three get BYD's 6-year vehicle and 8-year battery warranty in the UK, and the Seal and Seal 6 get the same structure in Australia. Here is what applies to each and what to check on a used one.

UK terms are BYD's European terms listed for the whole range. The Seal U DM-i is sold as the Sealion 6 in Australia.

Electric Seal

The Seal uses a 61.4 kWh or 82.5 kWh Blade (LFP) battery; the 2026 UK car uses 82.5 kWh in both the rear-drive Design and the all-wheel-drive Excellence. The battery is covered for 8 years with at least 70% state of health. The Seal has been on sale in the UK and Australia since 2023, so the oldest cars still have years of battery cover left.

Seal 6 DM-i saloon and Touring

The Seal 6 DM-i is a different, cheaper car: a plug-in hybrid with a petrol engine and a smaller battery. In the UK, BYD lists the Seal 6 DM-i saloon and Touring under the same terms as its EVs, and since January 2026 the high-voltage battery limit of 8 years / 250,000 km applies to plug-in hybrids too. In Australia the Seal 6 sedan and Touring get the 6-year / 150,000 km vehicle and 8-year / 160,000 km battery cover. Plug-in hybrids have an engine to service, so follow the hybrid schedule in the handbook.

Seal U DM-i (Sealion 6)

The Seal U DM-i is a mid-size plug-in hybrid SUV, sold in Australia and much of Asia as the Sealion 6 and in China and Latin America as the Song Plus DM-i. Same warranty structure as the rest of the range — but an imported Song Plus is a Chinese-market car and usually has no local cover.

What can void Seal warranty cover

Missed or undocumented servicing, non-approved modifications (including some aftermarket wheel and suspension changes), non-genuine parts or fluids, accident or flood damage, and ignoring warning lights. Keep every service invoice — they are what a dealer asks for first when you make a claim.

Checking a used Seal

Decode the VIN to confirm which Seal it is — the electric Seal and the Seal 6 DM-i are easy to mix up in listings — plus the battery size, build date and market. Then ask a BYD dealer for the warranty start date, open recalls and a battery health report.

FAQ

How long is the BYD Seal warranty?

6 years on the car and 8 years on the battery and drive unit. UK limits are 93,750 miles and 155,000 miles (250,000 km); Australian limits are 150,000 km and 160,000 km.

Does the BYD Seal 6 DM-i have the same warranty as the electric Seal?

In the UK and Australia, yes: 6 years on the vehicle and 8 years on the high-voltage battery, with the same distance limits.

Is the Seal U the same as the Sealion 6?
