BYD Seagull Warranty: One Car, Four Names, Different Terms
The Seagull is BYD's smallest and cheapest electric car, and it is sold under four names. That makes warranty searches confusing: the cover depends on where the car was sold new, not on its badge. Latin American Dolphin Mini terms vary by country. A car imported privately from another market usually has no local cover.
Why the badge doesn't decide the warranty
The local distributor provides the warranty for cars it sold. A Dolphin Surf bought new in the UK is covered by BYD UK; an Atto 1 bought new in Australia by BYD Australia. A Seagull imported from China into either country is a Chinese-market car and is usually not in the local warranty system at all, even though it is mechanically similar.
Battery cover on a small battery
The Seagull family uses small Blade (LFP) packs — for example 30 kWh and 43.2 kWh in the Australian Atto 1. The 8-year battery warranty and 70% state-of-health minimum are the same as on BYD's bigger cars, which is a strong guarantee on a car at this price.
Second-generation Seagull
A larger, second-generation Seagull opened for pre-orders in China in October 2026. Export versions will arrive later under the local names; check the warranty booklet for a new-generation car rather than assuming the current terms carry over.
What to check before buying a used one
Decode the VIN to confirm the market the car was built for, the battery size and the build date. Then ask a local BYD dealer whether the car is in their warranty system, when the warranty started and whether any recall work is outstanding.
