The A$4,000 cashback covers the Seal 6, the Sealion 5, 6, 7 and 8, and the Shark 6. On the Sealion 7 you can take a 6% novated-lease discount instead of the cashback, but not both. Offers change often — get the drive-away price in writing.

BYD warranty in Australia

Since April 2025, one 6-year / 150,000 km bumper-to-bumper warranty, plus 8 years / 160,000 km on the battery (at least 70% state of health) and drive unit — backdated to every car delivered since August 2022. BYD took over distribution from EVDirect in July 2025; existing warranties continue. You don't have to service at a BYD dealer, but servicing must be on schedule and documented.

Checking a used BYD in Australia

Match the VIN on the car to the registration papers and check the compliance plate — in 2026 some 2025-built Atto 3, Sealion 8 and Shark 6 vehicles were sold as 2026 builds. A PPSR search by VIN on the government register shows money owing and written-off or stolen status. Ask for the service invoices and a battery health report.

Private and grey imports

A BYD built for China — for example a Seagull instead of the Australian Atto 1 — needs import approval, isn't covered by BYD Australia's warranty or recall campaigns, and uses China's GB/T charging inlet instead of the CCS2 connector used at Australian public chargers. Decode the VIN to confirm the build market before you pay.
